04. Spend Background Points

Advancing Traits

All characters start with a dice value of d4 in every Trait.

Each point you allocate to a Trait increases that Trait's dice value by one step. For example, if you spend one point on Acumen which is currently at d4, its die value would improve from a d4 to a d6.

Note

It's important to note that during character creation, Trait's can not exceed a dice value of d8, with the exception of Species modifiers which may raise the starting cap to d10.

Physique

Embodies a character or creature's physical capabilities, including their muscular strength, overall bodily power, stamina, and resilience against harm and sickness.

Dexterity

Signifies a character or creature's ability to perform precise movements, maintain balance, demonstrate flexibility, and exhibit agility in various situations.

Acumen

Represents a character or creature's keenness of perception, ability to focus and maintain concentration, as well as their capacity for remembering facts and information in various situations. It also helps when attempting to process information and understanding what’s in front of the character.

Note: It doesn't directly represent intelligence; players can choose their character's level of intelligence and roleplay it during the game.

Morale

Encapsulates a character or creature's mental fortitude, resilience, and determination, allowing them to maintain their composure and take decisive action even in high-pressure situations. A strong Morale also equates to a strong personality and includes leadership and charisma.

Psyche

The character or creature's inner essence, spiritual energy and their overall sense of self. This Trait encompasses their life force and connection to the universe.

Luck

Symbolises the character's innate ability to experience good fortune, serendipity, and favourable outcomes in situations where the odds are uncertain. This Trait influences the likelihood of success in various endeavours, as well as how often the character may find themselves in fortuitous circumstances.

Skills

Acquiring a New Skill
If a player wants to start with a skill not included within their character's initial Skill package from their Trade, such as Athletics, they can allocate one point. This newly acquired Skill will commence with a dice value of d4.

Progressing an Existing Skill
Each point a player allocates to an existing Skill increases that Skill's dice value by one step. For instance, allocating one point to the Acrobatics Skill, initially at d4, will increase its dice value from a d4 to a d6. Similarly, if a character possesses a Munitions skill at d6, allocating one point enhances the dice value to a d8.

Note

It's important to note that during character creation, no Skill can exceed a dice value of d8, regardless of how many points you spend.

Tradecraft

The number of points allocated to Tradecraft corresponds to the number of different Tradecrafts your character can choose at the beginning of the game.

Resources

Each point allocated to Resources increases the pool of Units your character has to spend on additional equipment and neoware at the beginning of the game. This is on top of any starting equipment listed under their Trade. These Units can be used to purchase weapons, armour, tools, and other items that may be useful in your character's adventures.
